LUOA Student Handbook

Who are eligible to enroll?

All students applying to LUOA must be between the ages of 4 and 19. Students applying to kindergarten must reach the age of five before September 30 of the school year for which they are applying. Students who are 19 years old and will not be 20 on or before August 1 of the school year in which they are applying are only eligible to enter if they have successfully completed 11th grade and are entering as a senior. Students who will be 20 years of age on or before August 1 of the school year they are applying will not be permitted to enroll.

Can we enroll part-time or transfer credits for full time?

Full-time and Part-Time enrollment available.
You may transfer classes for credit. See the next section.
Students can enroll in K-12 courses year-round.
High school students (11th and 12th grade) with a GPA of 3.0+ are eligible for dual enrollment college courses through Liberty University Online.

Part-time students must only submit unofficial records; full-time students must submit official records. Only full-time students will earn a diploma from LUOA.

Please note: Students must be between 14 and 19 to participate in Dual Enrollment courses.

What is the transfer policy?

✅ High School Transfer Credits

LUOA accepts official transcripts from accredited schools for credit transfer.
Transcripts must be sent directly from the school to LUOA and include:
- School seal or administrative signature
- Course names and final grades
Transfer credits appear on the LUOA transcript as “Transfer Credit.”

📚 Homeschool Credits

Homeschooled high school students may submit documentation (e.g., portfolio, syllabi, graded work).
LUOA may require an entrance assessment to evaluate course mastery, especially for math placement or early high school credit (e.g, taken in 7th or 8th grade).

🎓 College/Dual Enrollment Transfer

LUOA may award high school credit for college coursework:
- 3 or 4 credit-hour college course = 0.5 high school credit
- 1 or 2 credit-hour college course = 0.25 high school credit
A maximum of 2 high school credits (typically four college classes) may be transferred into a LUOA dual enrollment track.

🌍 International Students

Students who’ve completed coursework outside the U.S. must have transcripts evaluated course-by-course by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service.

🛑 Important Notes

Bible courses transferred from other schools or homeschools will not count as electives.
Transfer students enrolling seniors must complete at least 5.5 LUOA credits during their senior year to earn a LUOA diploma.

What documents are needed for enrollment?

Official Academic Records for all Full-Time Students: Transcripts or report cards showing the student's most recent academic progress.

Grades 2-8: If no high school credit has been awarded, an official signature or embossed seal is not required.
9th–12th Grade: Records must be signed by a school administrator and/or have the official school seal. They should also indicate the number of credits awarded for each course.
Homeschool: A parent-generated transcript or report card detailing courses taken and grades received.
International Students: Translated into English and evaluated for U.S. equivalency.

At Masterpiece Academy, we offer two parallel pathways for academic and spiritual growth — both grounded in the LUOA curriculum, guided by caring facilitators, and enriched with our signature projects and learning experiences.

Whether your student joins us in person or connects virtually from anywhere, they receive consistent structure, high-touch support, and opportunities to thrive.

In-Person Learning

On-campus. Community-driven. Fully supported.

Full-day schedule: Monday–Thursday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Learning takes place in small, supervised cohorts (10–12 students)
Daily LUOA coursework supported by a Learning Facilitator
Guided enrichment: STEM, Writing, Mathletes, Reading

When do we enroll?

What is the Masterpiece Academy's Role?

As an affiliate, Masterpiece Academy is the point of contact during enrollment.

Families submit documents and communicate through the academy, which works directly with LUOA.

At the Masterpiece Academy, students benefit from coaching and strong enrichment (reading, writing, and STEM) support while accessing LUOA’s online platform and teacher network.

In addition, students have access to:

Two Learning Management Systems: LUOA & Masterpiece Academy
Technical and academic support hotlines

What does the course load look like?

Full-time status requires 5+ LUOA courses per term.
Courses must be completed in:
- 22 weeks (semester courses)
- 41 weeks (full-year courses)
Extensions are available but come with additional fees and conditions.
Assignments are graded promptly by the LUOA professors, and courses are designed to promote mastery and accountability.
Masterpiece teachers and facilitators provide enrichment that gives depth to the exceptional curriculum offered by LUOA.

What are the withdrawal policies?

Course Withdrawal Policy

We understand that life circumstances can change. Here's what families need to know about withdrawing from a course through our LUOA affiliate program.

Withdrawal Deadlines

1. Semester Courses (22 weeks total)

Withdraw within 16 weeks → A “W” (Withdrawn) will appear on the transcript but won’t affect GPA.
Withdraw after 17 weeks or more → Not permitted. Students must complete the course or receive an “FN” (Failure for Non-Completion), which does affect GPA.

2. Full-Year Courses (41 weeks total)

Withdraw within 32 weeks → “W” on transcript, no GPA impact.
Withdraw after 37 weeks → Not permitted. Students receive an “FN” if the course isn't completed.

3. Conditions for Withdrawal

Must be requested by a parent, guardian, or the Masterpiece Academy staff member (Affiliate POC).
The student must not have progressed beyond Module 1 for a full tuition refund.
After that, refunds or prorated tuition depend on LUOA’s financial policy.

4. Reopening Withdrawn Courses

Once officially withdrawn, a course cannot be reopened unless explicitly approved by LUOA administration.

5. Consequences of Non-Completion

If students stop progressing in a course for 30+ days, they may be administratively withdrawn and receive an “FN” (Failure for Non-Completion). This grade negatively affects GPA, and no credit is awarded.

What does the tuition include?

Full tuition includes access to the LUOA and the Masterpiece Academy’s enrichment curriculum, live online or in-person instruction, pacing support, enrichment classes, and inquiry-based STEM projects.

A one-time setup fee of $50 applies for those who opt to pay monthly.

Section 504 Accommodations through LUOA

At The Masterpiece Academy, we believe every student deserves a learning environment where they can thrive. Through our partnership with Liberty University Online Academy (LUOA), we offer Section 504 Plans to provide reasonable academic accommodations for students with qualifying disabilities.

📘 What is Section 504?

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights law prohibiting discrimination based on disability. It ensures that students with physical or mental impairments that substantially limit a major life activity (like learning, reading, concentrating, etc.) receive equal access to educational opportunities.

Who Qualifies?

Students may qualify for a 504 Plan if they have a documented condition that significantly impacts a major life activity, such as:

Learning
Reading
Communicating
Concentrating
Writing
Other physical or cognitive tasks

What Accommodations May Be Offered?

Reasonable accommodations may include:

Read-aloud options for quizzes/tests
Extra time or flexible pacing
Verbal responses scribed by a parent or proctor
Simplified or clarified directions
Use of basic calculators

Each plan is individualized to meet the student’s unique needs.

📝 How to Request a 504 Plan

Parents or guardians should:

Contact our office to initiate a request.
Submit documentation of the student’s diagnosis and learning needs.
Work with LUOA’s Academic Support Team, who will evaluate the request and create a formal 504 Plan if appropriate.

Once approved, the plan is shared with teachers and academic staff, and accommodations begin immediately.
